Analysis of the Creative Writing

Introduction

Creative writing is also know as “the art of making things up”. The writing per se may not be very technical or academic but it can attract audiences with its creative features. Broadly speaking, creative writings can be any form of writing which is original and self-expressive. The purpose of a creative writing can be sharing or telling one’s personal experience such as love. Writers tend to identify a truth through poetics, short stories, storyboards, or other creative writings. In the poem, “Lover”, I intends to express my feeling and attitude toward love. It depicts my imagination about a very tough journey in the pursuit of love. In fact, it is not necessarily true that the “lover” is referring to somebody in the real sense. It can also represent a goal or an ideal that I wish to sacrifice my life for.

Sensory Details

First, I have used sensory details in my creative writing. Sensory details may include sight, sound, touch, taste, etc. Writers in creative writings tend to use the five senses to engage target audiences’ interest. In the poem, “I can smell you, very faint” and “Tracing your fragrance from afar” describes about the smell of my ideal lover. It is fragrant but a little bit weak from a very distant place. The smell is also blended with warm and moist “flesh air”. The smell is the trace left by my “lover”. Based on the clues, it is feasible for me to approach my lover or ideal. I also describe that the smell can also make me lose “my sanity”. In other words, I cannot resist the lure or desire to approach her. I can no longer control myself. It shows that the process of attaining a goal or looking for a lover is not something rational or voluntary. “Colder and colder” means that the journey is getting tougher and tougher but meanwhile I am also going to approach my final goal. It is based on the magnitude of the fragrance. When I get close to my lover, it is predictable that the smell is going to be very strong. Astonishingly, when I really touched my “lover”, she lit me up. It shows that my illusion and dream for love is broken. She destroys me and makes me “glittering in the darkness”. It will be shocking to the audiences because most people may expect a sweet and successful love story but love itself may be very complicated. Sometimes it may be one-directional. The energy, effort, time and other inputs may not result in an equivalent reward. Through effectively using sensory details, readers or audiences may become empathetic and resonate with the writer’s experience in the love journey because they can smell, feel and touch what the writer has described in the poem. When sensory details are used, readers can personally experience whatever the writer intends to describe, reminding them of their own experiences. The writer will also be effectively connected with the readers. For instance, readers may also have very beautifully decorated dreams or ideals but in the end fail to achieve them. So the readers will understand what the writer actually means here.

Language Use in Creative Writing

Imagery is the artistic language which I have used in my poem. It intends to create images in the mind of target readers. Imagery includes figurative and metaphorical language to improve the readers’ experience through their senses. For instance, “in the chill wind, I walked”. The adjective “chill” implies that the weather is extremely cold. When the writer is walking in a cold, lonely dark night, readers can also imagine how difficult it is to purse his “lover”. In addition, I also describe the situation with the phrase “weary silence”. Silence means that nobody is actually talking at that moment. Everything falls in an absolute silence and tranquility. But I use the adjective “weary” in front of the world, “silence”. It shows that the writer is actually struggling and feels very tired in his journey. Everything in the journey keeps repeating. I actually cannot judge about how long the journey is but I firmly believe that my final target is “closer and closer”. Because we experience life through our senses, descriptive imagery can effective launch readers into the same experience of the writer. It allows readers to directly sympathize with narrators as they have the same sense experiences.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have write a poem through practicing creative writing skills. I intend to add sensory details and figurative imagery description in the poem and share my feeling towards love or the journal to attain a goal. It is difficult to conclude that I have write a successful or beautiful poem because I am apparently lack of training in this part. However, I do believe that I have delivered what I really wish to share with my readers. Sometimes a goal or an ideal is very alluring. A person may also try his or her best in the pursuit of such goals but the result may not be satisfactory or rewarding. I wish to point out that the result is not so important. The journey is equally charming. A person can use up all his or her energy to try out one thing. I believe that he or she must have very great determination and courage to do so. Besides, in the very last sense, I write, “You lit me up /Leave me glittering in the darkness.” It shows that even though she does something cruel to me, I do not feel regretful. At least I am “glittering” so the night is no longer dark at that moment.
